The Institute for Medieval Studies (IMS) at the University of Leeds offers a Bibliography Scholarship which is to be held by an incoming part-time Home or EU postgraduate student who has been accepted onto the PhD programme in the IMS. The scholarship is worth £6,000 per year (payable in instalments) and is available for a total of 5 years, commencing on 1 October 2010.
The successful applicant will work in the team producing the International Medieval Bibliography. He/she will receive training in the principles and practice of bibliographical classification and indexing in the different disciplines relevant to Medieval Studies, with particular emphasis on subject classification, historical geography, manuscript referencing and different linguistic equivalents of index terms. He/she will work under the supervision of the Editorial Director of the International Medieval Bibliography and will be required to compile and/or edit complete bibliographical records in appropriate areas of expertise. During the subsequent years of the scholarship the holder will be expected to work with a greater degree of responsibility and less direct supervision.
Applications for the Bibliography Scholarship should consist of a separate curriculum vitae (maximum 3 pages) along with a letter of application for the scholarship (maximum 2 pages). Scholarship applicants may be required to attend an interview and/or undertake a written test. Scholarship applications may be submitted either in conjunction with applications for the IMS PhD programme (for details see http://www.leeds.ac.uk/ims/study/apply/) or at any point subsequently up to the deadline of 31 May 2010. Decisions about the award of the scholarship will be announced to applicants by mid-June 2010.

Jedna od reformi koje Republika Hrvatska provodi za uspješno ispunjavanje svih kriterija za punopravno članstvo u EU je i reforma državne uprave čiji je krajnji cilj stvaranje dobro organizirane, visokoučinkovite i na tehnologiji i znanju utemeljene javne uprave.
U skladu s time, Vlada Republike Hrvatske provodi od 1998. godine Program o dodjeljivanju jednogodišnjih stipendija za poslijediplomske europske studije u inozemstvu za koji je zaduženo Ministarstvo vanjskih poslova i europskih integracija. Do 2009. godine je dodijeljeno oko 250 stipendija na uglednim europskim sveučilištima u Austriji, Belgiji, Francuskoj, Irskoj, Italiji, Nizozemskoj, Njemačkoj, Poljskoj, Španjolskoj, Švedskoj i Velikoj Britaniji. Na ovaj način doprinosi se jačanju administrativne strukture RH s naglaskom na obrazovanje stručnjaka za europske integracije koji će raditi na poslovima pristupanja RH Europskoj uniji.
Odjel za obrazovanje Uprave za potporu procesu pristupanja RH EU će ove godine odabrati kandidate, iz redova državnih službenika, za dodjelu stipendija za poslijediplomske jednogodišnje studije iz područja:

- ekonomije Europske unije
- multidisciplinarnih europskih studija.
Odabrani državni službenici će s Ministarstvom vanjskih poslova i europskih integracija potpisati ugovore u kojima su definirana njihova prava i obveze, a jedna od obveza je da po završenom studiju odrade svoje stipendije tri godine u tijelima državne uprave.

The Open Society Institute's Network Scholarship Programs (NSP) is pleased to announce the Global Supplementary Grant Program (GSGP) for the 2010 – 2011 academic year. GSGP offers supplementary grants to students from select countries of Eastern and Central Europe, the former Soviet Union, and Mongolia. The purpose of the program is to enable qualified students to pursue doctoral studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences at accredited universities in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle/Near East, and North America.
Eligibility
The Global Supplementary Grant Program is available to citizens of the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
Students pursuing doctorates in the medical, physical, chemical, technical or natural sciences as well as fine or performing arts are not eligible for this grant. Ineligible fields of study also include:
- Business Administration/Management Training
- Computer Science
- Finance/Banking/Marketing
- Engineering
- Hard & Natural Sciences (Physics, Biology, Chemistry, etc.)
- Mathematics
- Medical Sciences
GSGP grants are for students pursuing doctorate degrees only. Students admitted to master’s programs with the intent to continue, but who are not clearly admitted into a Ph.D. program, are ineligible.
Please note that this is a supplementary program not intended for full funding. Applicants must be able to demonstrate additional support from other sources.

Opis stipendije:
The ESRC large grant project on Poverty and Social Exclusion in the UK (PSE), involving six universities across the UK, will collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data in order to deepen understanding of social exclusion. The international studentship will be linked to the PSE project, in order to build capacity in techniques of poverty measurement, and to examine the applicability of quantitative and qualitative research instruments in a country categorised by the UN Human Development Index (HDI) as either 'medium' or 'low'.
The method of poverty measurement pioneered by the PSE surveys, often referred to as the 'consensual' approach, has influenced official UK and EU poverty measures, but has rarely been used beyond Europe. The consensual method combines measures of income, material possessions and participation in social activities, with what the majority of people decide are 'the basic necessities of life'. Defining the latter, in a robust and meaningful way, is a key element of the method. With some modification, it has been piloted in medium/low HDI countries, demonstrating that the technique is not necessarily dependant on sophisticated government statistical data or expensive surveys, and that 'basic necessities' are both culturally and economically specific. The doctoral research, therefore, involves adapting, applying and evaluating the consensual technique alongside the HDI itself and any other measures specific to the chosen country. The studentship provides a strategic opportunity to link with one of Queen's University's priority countries for internationalisation, which include India and China (both 'medium' HDI countries).

The fellowships offered under this scheme are of short term duration (6 months maximum) and are intended for specialized training at the postgraduate level. 28 of these awards are available through the Scottish Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (SORSAS), with a further 30 scholarships offered under the University's Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships.

NIDA-FUNDED HUMPHREY FELLOWSHIPS (DRUG ABUSE):
The drug abuse component of the field of public health policy and management emphasizes drug abuse education, treatment, and prevention. Fellowships funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) target more specialized candidates. Appropriate candidates for NIDA-funded Humphrey Fellowships include mid-level researchers, research managers and policy makers in universities, drug abuse prevention or treatment programs, health or social services industries or medical facilities. Candidates preferably should have a doctoral degree or equivalent in medicine, health, behavioral or social science. Professionals employed by social welfare, education or community-based organizations would be appropriate if they meet the general eligibility criteria. Law enforcement candidates are not eligible unless they have a public health focus on drug abuse epidemiology, education, treatment and prevention, and meet the requirements to follow a program based in a school of public health.
NATURE OF THE PROGRAM: It is essential that candidates have a clear understanding of the professional development component of the program. If a candidate's intent is to pursue an advanced academic degree, or to attend a specific university, he/she cannot be nominated for the program. Candidates should also understand that Humphrey maintenance support may not enable them to maintain the standard of living they enjoy at home.

Following a technical review, candidates will be invited for an interview at the end of June. Finalists will be notified at the end of July. Final selection results will be forwarded from Washington in March of 2011.
English language testing (TOEFL TEST):
All FINALISTS will be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Do not register for the test before you are notified of your status. If you have taken the test in the past 2 years please attach the score report.
TOEFL (computer based) test is administered in Zagreb at the Institute for the Development of Education, Preradoviceva 33, www.iro.hr. Minimum required score is 80 IBT (Internet Based Test).
FINANCIAL PROVISIONS AND DEPENDENTS
The Humphrey Fellowship provides:
- tuition and university fees
- a monthly maintenance allowance
- a book and supplies allowance
- a computer subsidy
- round-trip international travel to the host institution (and to the Fellow's English-language training program when applicable)
- domestic travel to Washington, D.C. for a special seminar.
- Supplementary funds are available for professional activities such as field trips or attendance at conferences. Humphrey Fellowships are not renewable.
Humphrey Fellows should plan to bring with them some personal funds to cover incidental expenses not covered in the grant. Humphrey Fellowships do not include funds for dependents (family members). Humphrey Fellows are responsible for providing travel, insurance, and financial support for any dependents accompanying them to the United States. Please note that English and orientation centers cannot accommodate dependents. Therefore, dependents should not arrive in the United States until the Fellows are settled in their academic year programs and have secured housing (at least 30 days after the Fellow's arrival).

APPLICATION
Confidential Letters of Reference
You must submit three letters. U.S. universities consider letters of reference extremely important. All letters of reference should be written by teachers under whom you have studied or pursued research or by someone who has supervised you in work related to your proposed field of study. Letters of reference should not be written by persons related to you either by blood or marriage, or by personal friends.
At least one academic and one professional or work-related letter must be included among the three letters you provide. The letters of reference should be written in English, if possible. If they are not, a translation must be provided. Please be certain to ask that both pages of the form are completed. You can print out these forms and forward them to the individuals who will be your referees. They need to mail the references to one of the addressees listed below.
STANDARDIZED TESTS
All pre-doctoral (student) FINALISTS will be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and will receive instructions on how to apply.
TOEFL test is an admissions requirement at all U.S. universities for applicants whose native language is not English. Candidates must have a minimum score of 90 IBT (Internet Based Test). The test is administered in Zagreb.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
DURATION OF GRANTS: Fulbright pre-doctoral grants are awarded for one nine-month academic year beginning in August or September. Candidates appointed to certain types of Fulbright grants may be required to arrive during the summer for an introductory course or intensive English program prior to the academic year.
CHANGE OF PLANS: You should promptly inform the U.S. Embassy, or the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport of any change in your academic status or future plans after this application has been submitted.

The Materials Engineering group has vacancies for PhD studentships in the general fields of mechanics of materials, joining technologies, residual stress characterisation, structural integrity and high temperature behaviour. Some studentships are available with full stipend and fees, for UK, EU and international applicants.
Precise research topics will depend on the expertise on the student recruited and the source of funding for the particular project. Likely areas include the validation and accuracy of residual stress measurement techniques applied to welds, including neutron diffraction and the newly-developed contour method; high-temperature microstructural evolution in materials for aerospace applications; and creep of materials for power plant applications.
You should have or expect to gain a good Materials Science, Engineering or Physics degree.

In brief, the Vienna University of Technology offers a three year programme following the five main research areas of the Faculty of Informatics:

The Research Opportunities Summary Booklet holds information on all areas of research that can be supervised within the School of Psychology. PhD positions within EOR at the Centre for Integrated Petroleum Research (Uni CIPR)
CIPR is the only Norwegian Centre of Excellence for petroleum research. The centre consists of an international research group with more than 100 researchers and PhDs from all over the world. Open positions
There are several open PhD positions affiliated with research projects within Enhanced Oil Recovery. The projects are funded by the Norwegian Research Council and industry. The projects are based in Uni CIPR, with employment in Uni Research AS.
The PhD student will enter an approved programme at the University in Bergen, leading to the degree of PhD within a time frame of three years. It is a prerequisite, however, that the formal admission requirements for the PhD programme are met before appointment can be made.

MI Lab (Medical Imaging Laboratory for Innovative Future Healthcare) is an inter-disciplinary research centre integrating industry, hospital and university. The overall goal is to facilitate better health care and improved patient treatment through research and innovation in medical imaging.
MI Lab is located in Trondheim, Norway, in the fully integrated university hospital, St. Olavs Hospital. Its main success factor is creating an environment of close daily collaboration between medical doctors and technology researchers. The PhD positions will have different tasks in the areas of ultrasound technology, including acoustics, probe design, electronics, signal processing and image/video analysis. Also clinical research projects in applications of a new pocket-sized ultrasound scanner, and heart and brain imaging with MR and Ultrasound are available.
We will to some extent tailor each PhD project to the candidates special competence and interests.
Master students in their last year are also encouraged to apply.
These applicants will be evaluated on the same line as other applicants, but may only start a PhD fellowship after finished Masters's degree.
MI Lab and NTNU want to attract outstanding and creative candidates who can contribute to our ongoing research activities.

Qualificaions and practical information:
For a PhD position a Master's degree or equivalent is required with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best).

Selected applicants will be invited to undergo an interview. If none of the applicants holds up to the high standards of MI Lab, it may be decided not to hire any of the applicants.
The duration of a PhD fellowship is 3 years.

Depending on qualifications and academic background, Research Fellows at the Faculty of Medicine will be remunerated at wage levels 45-55 on the Norwegian State salary scale, with gross salary from NOK 353 000 - NOK 420 600 a year, of which 2% is deducted for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. A yearly amount for operating costs will be added.
