Overseas Research Scholarship

The University of Birmingham is currently offering up to twenty five postgraduate research scholarships, each of £12,000, to overseas graduates in the College of Life and Environmental Sciences. These awards aim to reward academic excellence and are additional to any other funding you may have already obtained.

 

The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise rated 89.9% of the University’s research activity as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. The College of Life and Environmental Sciences is at the forefront of research and offers extensive opportunities for postgraduate education and training.

 

Research opportunities are available in the following Schools:

 

* Biosciences

* Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

* Psychology

* Sport and Exercise Science

 

In addition postgraduate students at Birmingham are members of the University’s Graduate School, which provides a broad-based programme designed to develop your personal skills and career prospects. Many of our graduates go on to secure top positions in universities, industries or governments around the world.

 

Eligibility requirements

 

* Applications are open to all graduates who are classified as ‘international’ for fee purposes

* Students that have already secured full fee and maintenance support from other sources can still apply

* Candidates must have submitted an application to study at the University of Birmingham

 

Selection criteria

 

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, achievement and potential. Financial circumstances of the candidates are not taken into account.

 

Value: benefits and duration

 

Scholarships will begin in October 2009 and will provide £4,000 per year for three years. Funds may be applied to fees or can be paid out in instalments to scholars at the start of each academic year.
