The ZIBI-International Summer School on Pathogen-Host-Interplay will take place from July 11th to 24th 2010.
In 2010, the ZIBI summer school will be split up in a one week lecture course (first week) which will be open for 60 participants, including 14 students who will have the possibility to stay for a second week .
The first week will mainly consist of lectures by international and local scientists. For detailed information about the scientific program click here [ go to Preliminary Scientific Program ]. For the one-week course, we can't provide any scholarships. Therefore, the criteria for participation are less challenging. Just send the application form and note that you plan to participate in the one week lecture course on own financing.
During the second week, 14 participants will be introduced to the different research groups and institutes of the ZIBI. Scientists will present their 'state of the art' research in different demonstrations. For detailed information about the scientific program click here [PRELIMINARY PROGRAM 2010]. This second week will be open for 14 international and German students. The international students can apply for a scholarship by the ZIBI (see : Application).
Registration for the "two-weeks participants" will be in the morning of the 11 July 2010, followed by a short introduction to the program and of the participants. After lunch, we'll have a city walking tour at Berlin.
All other participants may register on Monday 12th July.

ZIBI Summer School

The International Summer School Pathogen-Host-Interplay is funded by the Center of Infection Biology and Immunity (ZIBI)
It is organised for 60 international and German postgraduate students of biosciences or medicine who are in their final stage of their Master studies. It offers a forum for excellent students who consider infection biology and immunology as a research area for their PhD work and therefore seek a more comprehensive understanding of this interdisciplinary research field. PhD students who just started with their work and want to obtain additional training to complement their specific research project in infection biology or immunology can also participate.

Registration procedure for one week lecture course: You have to fill in a form with personal data and a motivation letter.
Application procedure for the two weeks course: You have to fill in a form with personal data, a motivation letter as well as the names of two referees. You also have to send a proof of your student status (matriculation copy or letter from your institute).

Eligiblity
The summer school is for students with a BSc who are currently doing their MSc or PhDstudents or early Post Docs (within 2 years after they finished their PhD) who seek a career in infection biology, immunology or related fields.
For the scholarship, which will allow the participation in the two-weeks course, we are interested in MSc students at an advanced phase of their studies. In case you have own fundings to stay for a two weeks course without scholarship, you should contact the coordinator.
For the one-week course, we don't have any scholarships. Therefore, the criteria for participation are less challenging. Just send the application form and note that you plan to participate in the one week lecture course on own financing.
Fees and scholarships
The fee for the summer school will be € 100 for all students independent on their participation in the one-week or two-weeks course. This fee will cover the costs for the first week lecture course, which will be open for up to 60 participants. The fee will have to be payed by all participating students before the start of the lecture course until 30. June 2009.

Scholarship
In addition, 14 applicants will have the chance to participate in the second week's program (demonstrations, practicals, excursions). We will award 10 scholarships to foreign participants depending on personal merit and need. The scholarships will cover the travel costs, accommodation including breakfast at the students' hostel "Schlachtensee", local public transport and the excursions. In addition, we will cover a daily lunch. International students can apply for the scholarship only through our office. Application for funding is provided in the general application form. Detailed organisational information on the scholarship will be given after the selection of the scholars.
